The Samsung Galaxy S III has started to arrive at the front door of those who pre-ordered the sizzling hot phone. Less thankful are those Big Red customers who were looking to buy the handset as soon as they were available in Verizon stores. Originally, the phone was supposed to be available at Verizon locations on July 9th. That was pushed back a day at a time until a leaked ad from a retailer pointed to July 12th as the launch date for the device.

And that is where things stood for a few days and with talk that the pre-orders were on their way, it looked like this was the date that would be locked in. But one thing that we have learned with carrier's launch dates is that they are about as firm as soggy oatmeal. So here it is, Sunday night, just two days away from one of the most anticipated handset launches of the year for the nation's largest carrier, and Verizon's own web site reveals the shocking news that the release is delayed two days to July 12th.

At least the price remains the same. $199.99 with a signed two-year contract for the 16GB model in Marble White or Pebble Blue. The 32GB unit runs $249.99 with the signed contract and the same choice of colors. Verizon customers must feel like they are jinxed and that the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S III will never happen.

South Korea's Samsung Electronics, the world's largest smartphone maker, says it expects to have sold 10 million of its newest Galaxy S3 model by the end of July, two months after its launch.
JK Shin, head of the mobile communications division, says robust sales of the model will help Samsung's mobile business post a second-quarter profit bigger than the first three months.
"We're getting more positive reviews for Galaxy S3 than the previous Galaxy S1 and S2 since the release in Europe, the Middle East and South-East Asia beginning May 29," Shin said at an event to mark the phone's domestic release on Monda

He estimated that global sales of the new phone -- currently available in 147 countries -- will surpass 10 million next month, including about a million to be sold at home.
"We're doing fairly well in emerging-economy markets ... I think our second-quarter earnings will be better than the first quarter's, despite the difficult economic situation in Europe," Shin said.
The company, the world's biggest technology firm by revenue, posted a record net profit for all its divisions of 5.05 trillion won ($A4.43 billion) in the first quarter, thanks largely to strong smartphone sales.
The third version of the Galaxy S series offers face-recognition technology and improved voice-activated controls as well as a more powerful processor that lets users watch video and write emails simultaneously.
It also has a 12.2cm screen that is 22 per cent larger than the S2, while it can detect eye movements and override the automatic shutdown if the user is looking at the screen.
Samsung shipped 44.5 million smartphones in the first quarter, exceeding the 35.1 million of rival Apple, according to market researcher Strategy Analytics in April.
Samsung, embroiled in patent lawsuits in 10 nations with Apple, is pinning its hopes on the S3 to further erode Apple's market share before the expected new version of Apple's iPhone 5 this year.
In a rare victory for the Korean company, a Dutch court last week ruled in favour of Samsung and ordered the US giant to pay unspecified damages for patent infringement.

Samsung says it expects worldwide shipments to carriers of its new Galaxy S3, launched at the end of May as a top-end rival to Apple's iPhone, to top 10m in July, making it the South Korean group's fastest selling smartphone.
Samsung's mobile business president, Shin Jong-kyun, said on Monday that the Galaxy S3 would reach the milestone two months after its launch, and be on sale from nearly 300 mobile carriers around the world by the end of July.
The figures reflect shipments of the devices to carriers, not customers; unlike Apple, which is able to record activations of each iPhone by an end-user, Samsung does not disclose sales figures to consumers.
Shin also predicted earnings from its handset division would be higher in the current second quarter than in January-March, countering market concerns that tight supplies of the new Galaxy model and the weak global economy would pressure earnings at Asia's most valuable technology firm.
Shares in Samsung dropped more than 4% on Monday to a four-and-a-half month low, after more brokers cut their quarterly profit outlook, citing concerns over the electronics giant's chip and telecoms businesses. The benchmark KOSPI stock index was down 1.6%.
"The overall market condition was challenging due to eurozone issues and tight supply of components ... but [our] second-quarter results will be better than the first quarter," Shin said.
Profit from Samsung's mobile division nearly trebled in January-March to $3.6bn (£2.3bn), accounting for 73% of group operating profit.
Samsung kicked off global sales of its Galaxy S3 on 29 May, but shipments have been affected by the tight supply of parts such as the handset casing for the pebble-blue model. The S3 comes in blue or white models.
"Supply remains very tight due to strong demand and component shortages, but we expect overall supply conditions to improve from next week," Shin said.
Samsung said in late April that new Galaxy smartphones would substantially contribute to second-quarter results. Samsung overtook Nokia as the world's biggest mobile-phone maker in 2011 and competes with Apple for the top smartphone maker position.
It aims to double its smartphone sales this year to nearly 200m phones.
Analysts have downgraded estimates for Samsung's second-quarter smartphone shipments in recent weeks, predicting that sales of the latest Galaxy model have triggered a steeper than expected drop-off in sales of earlier products.
They also cited tight supply of the S3 model and growing competition from low-end manufacturers such as Huawei and ZTE.
JPMorgan cut its forecast for Samsung's second-quarter smartphone shipments by a tenth to 50m units.
Samsung sold 44.5m smartphones in the first quarter, from January to March – equal to nearly 21,000 every hour – giving it 30.6% market share of the entire smartphone market, and more than 50% share of the Android handset market, according to researchers.
Apple sold 35.1m iPhones, taking 24.1% market share.
Samsung introduced its first Galaxy in 2010, three years after the iPhone's debut, to counter Apple's roaring success in smartphones and take advantage of stumbles at bigger rivals Nokia and BlackBerry maker Research in Motion.

Sony Xperia miro

The Sony Xperia miro is a step up from the newly announced Xperia tipo, and is an Android 4.0 device aimed at social networking fans who are looking for a relatively low cost smartphone with a reasonable feature set.

On the front of the Xperia miro is a 3.5" 320 x 480 pixel scratch-resistant display which is small by Android standards, but still the same size as the iPhone 4S (although a much lower resolution). On the back is a 5 megapixel camera capable of VGA resolution video capture, and there's also a secondary camera on the front for video calling.

Inside is an 800MHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor with 512MB of RAM (the same as on the Xperia tipo). Internal memory is 4GB of flash (with 2.2GB available to the user) and there is also a microSD slot.
Shipping with Android 4.0 out of the box, the Xperia miro does everything that every other Android phone will do and includes WiFi, 3.5G support, Bluetooth and GPS. There are some Sony multimedia enhancements too, and one key selling point is something Sony called "Deep Facebook Integration".
The Xperia miro weighs 110 grams, measures 113 x 59 x 9.9mm and the 1500 mAh battery is quoted as giving up to 6 hours talktime and 22 days standby time. Available colour schemes are black, black/pink, white and white/gold.

Whether or not the Xperia miro makes an attractive proposition to customers will depend on price, and Sony aren't saying how much this will cost. Our guess is that it should retail for less than €200 when it hits the markets during Q3 2012.

Verizon delayed the shipping date of the Galaxy SIII

 

Verizon's customers who really cannot wait another moment to get their hands on the Samsung Galaxy S III, They have to wait a little bit longer as the shipping date has been delayed by one day from the original day.

The "ship by" date, which had previously been set for July 9th, has now been changed to July 10th on Verizon's website.

The Samsung Galaxy S III is Coming to the US very soon, Good news is that you can get it for cheap early on Target and AmazonWireless have both dropped the price to a mere $150 for upgraders on AT&T.

First, Target started offering the SGS III for $149.99 if you choose to give your AT&T contract a two-year extension, and then AmazonWireless dropped the price as well. Both offers are for the 16GB version of the handset, but luckily Samsung is shipping the Galaxy S III with expandable memory so you can bring your own microSD card of up to 64GB and have all the space you need.
